Driving Experiences

Since finishing my exams I’ve been able to try out a few other types of cars and karts to try and find out what would be the next step if I did make the move from karts. First I tried my hand at gearbox karts; and although they still have karts in the name they are completely different to the type of karts I usually drive. The power delivery is amzing with 0-60 of around 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of over 100 mph on the Darley Moor circuit that I tested on. I had half a day with the karts which were of various qualities and the experience was good.

I enjoyed driving the gearbox kart but racing would be a different thing entirely and I was left feeling as though they were almost too quick for me to enjoy racing, but this was only my first time so my oppinion could change.  The second car I got to experience was one of the single seaters at Silverstone. We drove on the Stowe circuit, with people of mixed abilities, which made it very hard to get some clear track and really push the car. I overtook everybody in my 20 minute session and was starting to get to grips with car just as the session ended.

I preffered driving the single seater due to having the bodywork all around you and the car felt nice to drive, however it didn’t have the same power delivery as the gearbox kart or the grip but I felt that because of this it would be more fun to race something of that style. Overall both experiences have opened my mind to the options I have if I do make the jump from karting and I’m excited by the idea of what might be next.
