Lap of Rockingham in the MX5 - Daniel Rogers and Rhys Jenkins

Ma5da MX5 Championship 2011

I’ve kept this quiet for long enough now! Next year we are looking to race in the Ma5da MX5 Championship, which will mean clearing out all of the karting equipment and focussing on the new challenge. We chose this championship after following the progress of Carly Latcham who moved into it this year from karting. We will not be the only ones making the move, as we will be running alongside Rhys Jenkins and hopefully Michael Rich, who also raced with me in Senior TKM 4 Stroke.

The Championship attracts large grids of around 30 cars in each race, sometimes more and visits many of the UK’s best motorsport venues including Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Silverstone and Rockingham to name a few. I’ve been to see a lot of the races this year, as well as following the TV coverage on Motors TV, and at Rockingham Carly kindly let Rhys and I flip a coin for a drive of the car on the parade lap. Sadly this didn’t go in my favour and I sat alongside as passenger whilst Rhys got to drive, but it still let me see what the cars were like around the track.

The most important item is the car, and we plan to try and purchase a car that has been used in this years championship and has a proven history. Rhys is taking a different approach and is converting a road going car into race specification. I have included photos of his work in progress in the gallery at the top, just to make him happy. He hopes to have this car ready within the next few months so that we can do a few track days before the start of the season in April.
